Things to Do in Kawaguchiko This Afternoon: A 1 PM Kayak Tour

If lunch is over and the rest of the day is still open, a 1 PM kayak tour offers a simple way to experience Lake Kawaguchiko from the water.

FunatsuAfternoon

Already explored part of the lake this morning? The day does not have to end after lunch.

The 1 PM departure offers time on Lake Kawaguchiko without requiring an early start or a full-day itinerary.

It is just after noon in Kawaguchiko.

Perhaps you spent the morning walking along the north shore. Perhaps you visited a museum, stopped for coffee or simply started the day later than planned.

Lunch is over, but returning to the hotel still feels too early.

You do not always need to reserve every part of the day weeks in advance. If you are already around Lake Kawaguchiko and wondering what to do this afternoon, the 1:00 PM Mt. Fuji Panoramic Kayak Tour can fit naturally into the hours that remain.

How a 1 PM Departure Fits into the Day

The departure is late enough to leave the morning open, but early enough to finish with time for a café, a short walk, an onsen or a relaxed return to your accommodation.

The guided tour lasts approximately two hours, so you should normally be back at the meeting point at around 3 PM.

This makes it particularly convenient if:

  • You explored part of Kawaguchiko in the morning
  • You want an activity after lunch
  • You arrived later than expected
  • You deliberately started the day slowly
  • You are visiting without a car
  • You only decided today that you would like to get onto the lake

The 1 PM tour is not intended to reproduce the atmosphere of Coffee on a Kayak. The early-morning experience has its own character, with coffee, an early start and a quieter lake.

The afternoon departure serves a different kind of day: one that has already begun but still has several open hours.

CHECK CURRENT AVAILABILITY

Same-day booking may be possible when spaces remain. Availability is not guaranteed, so check before traveling to the meeting point.

What Can You Do Before the Kayak?

The morning can remain flexible.

You might walk along one section of the north shore, visit a museum or garden, explore around Funatsu, or simply have a slow breakfast followed by an early lunch.

Avoid placing too many stops before the tour. Kawaguchiko looks compact on a map, but traveling between the north shore, the station area and different attractions can take longer than expected.

If you are on the north side of the lake, leave enough time to return to Funatsu. A long lunch beginning at 12:30 will also be difficult to combine with the departure.

The meeting point is NaturaBase at 4010 Funatsu, in front of Fuji Lake Hotel. It is approximately a 15-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station. Guests are asked to arrive about ten minutes before the tour begins. These details are confirmed on the current Daytime tour listing and Tripadvisor product page.

What Is the Experience Like?

This is a guided experience, not an independent kayak rental.

The published tour format includes approximately 15 minutes of instruction, 15 minutes of practice and 90 minutes of guided kayaking. The complete experience lasts around two hours.

The tour is offered in English and is suitable for beginners who are comfortable taking part in an outdoor water activity. The current description lists kayaking equipment, one bottle of water per person and photos taken by the guide as included.

Being on the water changes the scale of Kawaguchiko. From the shore, the lake can sometimes feel like a backdrop between viewpoints. From a kayak, it becomes the landscape itself.

You notice the distance between the shores, the movement of the water, the surrounding hills and details that are easy to miss while traveling by road.

From a kayak, Lake Kawaguchiko becomes more than a viewpoint for Mount Fuji.

Can You Book on the Same Day?

Sometimes.

The 1 PM departure works well for a last-minute decision because it leaves part of the morning available to check your plans, the weather and your energy level.

However, same-day booking depends on remaining spaces, guide availability and operating conditions. It should never be assumed.

If you decide that you would like to join, check availability as soon as possible. Do not travel to NaturaBase expecting to participate without a confirmed booking.

The current price is ¥10,000 per person, but prices and availability can change. Confirm both on the booking page.

Fuji Visibility and Weather

Mount Fuji may be fully visible, partly covered or completely hidden by cloud. Clear weather beside the lake does not guarantee a clear summit, and conditions can change during the tour.

The activity should therefore not be treated as a guaranteed Mount Fuji viewing session.

The lake remains worthwhile in its own right. The water, surrounding hills, changing light and view back toward the shoreline are all part of the experience.

For more about the mountain’s changing appearance, see Why Mount Fuji Is Not Always Visible.

Kayaking conditions also depend on more than rain. Wind, thunderstorms, visibility and the condition of the lake all affect whether the tour can operate safely. A cloudy day may still be suitable, while a bright day can become unsuitable if the wind is too strong.

The operator makes the final decision according to conditions on the lake.

Wear clothes and shoes that can tolerate a little water. Bring sun protection on bright days and an additional layer when the weather is cool.

A Simple Afternoon Without a Car

Because NaturaBase is within walking distance of Kawaguchiko Station, the tour can fit into a car-free day without requiring a complicated regional itinerary.

One possible structure is:

Morning: Explore one part of Kawaguchiko on foot or by sightseeing bus.

Lunch: Eat early enough to return to Funatsu without rushing.

12:50 PM: Arrive at NaturaBase.

1:00 to approximately 3:00 PM: Guided kayak experience.

After 3:00 PM: Choose a café, a short lakeside walk, an onsen or a relaxed return to your accommodation.

If you are staying in a ryokan with a fixed check-in or dinner time, confirm that schedule before booking.

Leave Room for the Day You Are Actually Having

Kawaguchiko does not have to be experienced through an itinerary that begins at sunrise and continues without pause until evening.

Early morning has its own atmosphere. The 1 PM departure has a different strength: it leaves room for the morning you actually had, then gives the afternoon a clear centre without filling every remaining hour.

If lunch is approaching and you are still wondering what to do in Kawaguchiko today, check the current availability.

You may still have time to experience the lake from a completely different position.
